there’s a crispness in the air

It must be autumn. How do I know? I bought my first gallon of apple cider at the grocery yesterday, for one. The leaves are starting to change. I wore a longsleeved shirt to work today and actually felt just a bit of a chill. Last night was the first night I slept with the windows open because the external temperature was cooler than the internal. All these little things I use to mark the changing of the seasons.

Contrast that with blandy’s daydreams about the beach. He’s just lived through a few hurricanes down in Florida. To console him, he has the potential of going to the beach year round, sitting in the sun when I am freezing my ass off in C-bus. He frequently reminds me that when it is 50 up here it’s a balmy 75 down there. Makes me jealous most of the time.

The times when I am not jealous of sunny Florida are about 8 weeks out of 52. The two week period when the seasons switch over are just about worth all the freezing, driving snow and scorching summers. Everyone knows the smell of a clear autumn day. It’s different from the smell just before the first snowfall, but related. It’s all about the change.

I'’m in the midst of an enjoyable time up north. Pumpkins are starting to appear, halloween stores are in full boom, huge bags of cnady are on sale at the grocery. I will be cursing come January when the crazy soccer moms are out driving 15mph just because there’s a little frozen water on the ground. For now, I’m glad I live somewhere the seasons change. There’s something satisfying about having to bundle up and wear gloves and a hat.

Still fricking hot here across the pond, and no smell of autumn in the air anytime soon (kind of hard in a city of 10+ million). Although I must say I look forward to winter again this year, as the who city shuts down for a week if even an inch falls. Turks just aren’t bred for the winter…that and Istanbul only has one snow plow, if you can call it that. Sadly we had more snow here last year than I had the previous two in Wisconsin. One of these day’s I’ll have to teach teh Turks hockey, I am sick of getting schooled in football :)

yes, but four weeks does not a year make
I’m in perfect agreement with Holty’s appraisal of Autumn in Ohio. I know that crispness, that smell of brown leaves and grass, and the crowd noise at The Shoe in the distance. It’s all good and I can fondly recall those days. It is the time where y…
